Lot Essay

The Maatschappij tot Nut van 't Algemeen was founded in 1784 by Dutch reformers of the national education system. Their idealistic ideas associated with the ideals of the Enlightment to educate lower classed citizens and elevate them to virtuous citizens. They founded, amongst others, libraries for the common people. This bookcase is a result of these ideals.
