Vase form, on stepped circular foot, the body etched with foliate leaf pattern, with two oval cartouches with birds in flight, the central cartouche engraved with presentation inscription, the body with die-rolled leaf bands at intervals, with scroll handle, marked under base
14½ in. high; 35 oz.
The inscription reads: Presented to JOHN OLIPHANT, ESQ. OF THE TREASURY DEPARTMENT WASHINGTON. by sundry parties in New York as a slight token of appreciation of his Efficiency and attentive courtesy in the performance of his official duties, July 9, 1850.
