Originally from Kentucky, brothers Timothy Tansel (1810-1852) and Stark Tansel (b. 1807) moved to Indiana where they continued the family business of powder horn carving. It is known that Stark Tansel married Nancy Poak in Hendricks County, Indiana on March 18, 1848.
By the 1840's, the two brothers were overseeing the commercial side of the company and producing several powder horns featuring designs of eagles, feathers, and deers.
