Lot Essay

With its clean and uninterrupted lines this card table demonstrates a simplicity that contrasts with the highly carved furniture usually associated with Philadelphia during this period. The bold turret corners emphasize the horizontal elements of the table and at the same time ease the visual transition with the tall, upright cabriole legs and crisply-carved ball-and-claw feet.
