Lot Essay

Small sideboards or serving tables were popular throughout Federal America and this example, with its arched apron, is reminiscent of cabinetwork from Salem, Massachusetts. Combining tall reeded legs with a serpentine façade, this serving table features bold turret corners and beautifully grained veneers. The original lion's-head brasses are particularly appealing and provide a striking contrast with the dark mahogany.

A closely related example at Historic Deerfield (Wright House), Cluett Collection, attributed to Joseph True, is illustrated in Historic Deerfield, Inc., Annual Report for 1981 (Deerfield, MA, 1981), p. VIII.
