Lot Essay

The baluster profile of the columns of these andirons is quite unusual and successfully complements the scrolling cabriole legs. A pair of andirons with similar bulbous columns, square plinth bases and spurred cabriole legs with ball-and-claw feet is illustrated in Israel Sack, American Antiques from Israel Sack Collection, vol. VIII, p. 2200, fig. P5667.
