John Hubert Washington Hibbert (b. 1803), Gentleman, was married to Julia Tichbourne, daughter of Sir Henry Joseph Tichbourne, 8th Baronet, in 1839. Although Hibbert inherited the family estate, Bilton Grange, Warwickshire, he and his wife chose to live in London for most of their lives. During their marriage, they had one daughter, Cecilia Elizabeth. Mrs. Hibbert was a popular hostess in London and their hospitality was well-known in social circles. Bilton Grange was later sold and opened as a school in 1919.
The old type of English gentleman - with a special individuality of his own, with a high sense of honour, and a thorough belief in the obligation that lies upon a man of family to act upon the traditions of his race - has so nearly disappeared, that it is pleasant and refreshing to find, as is found in Mr. Washington Hibbert. His outward appearance is well-known in London, and it impresses at once as that of a man of a special character and a special distinction.
