Arthur Annesley, 11th Viscount Valentia and Premier Baronet of Ireland (1843-1927), Military Officer, Courtier and Politician, began his career in the 10th Hussars in 1869. He later joined the Yeomanry as a Lieutenant, becoming a Commanding Officer (1894-1904). Valentia helped to form the Imperial Yeomanry during the Boer War and served as Assistant-Adjutant-General in South Africa. Back in England, Valentia was also Comptroller of the Royal Household during the reigns of Queen Victoria and King Edward VII, and was made a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order and also a Companion of the Bath. Valentia was M.P. for Oxford and Master of the Bicester Hunt for many years. He was married to Laura Peyton and lived at Bletchingdon House, Oxford. He remained Honorary Colonel of the Q.O.O.H. until his death in 1927.
