in the style of a Euro-American frockcoat, composed of red saved-list cloth, with collar, lapels and cuffs of contrasting navy blue wool trade cloth, overlaid across the shoulders and down the arms with beaded buffalo hide strips, sinew sewn in blue and white pony beads, with finger-like motifs, perhaps stylized bear paws, trimmed with hide fringe and brass buttons

Provenance
Reportedly worn by Old Joseph, father of the renown Nez Perce Chief Joseph, at the 1855 signing of a treaty with the U. S. that allowed his people to retain much of their traditional land. Sold by his direct descendents before or during the 1930s.
