The drawing's style is close to two drawings by Heintz in the Albertina of putti also after Raphael's frescoes (J. Zimmer, Joseph Heintz der Altere. Zeichnungen und Dokumente, Munich, 1988, nos. A31-2, pls. 65-6). These were drawn during Heintz's Italian sojourn in 1584-9. A contemporary copy by Heintz after Polidoro was sold in these Rooms, 25 January 2005, lot 185. This drawing records a winged putto from Raphael's fresco Vulcan's Forge with Cupids and Grotesques, in a lunette in the Vatican Loggetta (P. de Vecchi, The complete paintings of Raphael, New York, 1966, no. 151).
