The decoration on the façade of this imaginary museum resembles the wild fantasy of a collector of sculpture, including among other classical masterpieces the Equestrian Marcus Aurelius, the Farnese Hercules, the Apollo Belvedere, the Capitoline Flora, the Laocoon and the Dioscuri, with Trajan's Column standing in the forecourt. Although these works were not brought to Paris after Napoleon's ransacking of Roman collections in 1796, this drawing might show Robert musing, with a touch of humour, on the possibilities for the future of the Louvre.
