This table shows similarities with the work of both Morgan and Sanders and Thomas Butler. The firms were closely associated, both were located in Catherine Street, Strand, in the early part of the 19th century, and both patented telescopic extening dining tables with the reeded leg so fashionable at the time. In a broadsheet advertisement of c.1810, Morgan and Sanders referred to 'Imperial Dining Tables...to dine from 4 to 20 persons...the whole Table shuts up into the space of a Large Pembroke Table', and this table typifies their ingenious and space-saving furniture. When Thomas Butler retired in 1814 Morgan and Sanders took over much of his stock.
