Lot Essay

The Place de Vendome column inspired by the column of Trajan in the forum, Rome, was constructed from the bronze of 1250 Russian and Austrian cannons captured after the battle of Austerlitz in 1805, the present model is surmounted by the figure of Napoleon with bi-corn hat, which replaced the previous model of Napoleon as a Roman emperor during the Restauration.
