A TLINGIT WOOD AND STEEL DAGGER WITH HIDE SHEATH AND SLING
composed of a steel blade, one side with beveled edges, inset into a wood guard and grip, secured with a hand-wrought copper nail and tightly bound with hide thong, surmounted by a wood pommel, carved in the form of a bear's head in profile, with hollowed area below the jaw, parted lips revealing a slightly protruding tongue, flaring nostrils, and hollowed eye frames finely carved with classic ovoid eye rims, beneath arching brows and tall curving ears, decorated with circular abalone shell plaques and formline details; the tapering sheath, bound with sinew at the bottom, cuffed at the top
