Lot Essay

Painter, illustrator and sculptor. Pupil of the Berlin Academy, he exhibited his portraits with this institution in the 1880s and 1890s. Amongst his sculptures, is the figure of a Yao, an ethnic group living in Tanzania, then German East Africa. Francke also did drawings of this territory.
