Lot Essay

Callewaert was taught at the art-academy of Ghent to become Professor there in 1924. After an illness, he became addicted to morphine. "Peintre maudit" Callewaert died at an early age in 1936. This work shows the artist's melancholic dream-world, evoked by morphine.
