Lot Essay

Piet Begeer was a pupil of Laurens van Kuik and member of the Branding and R 33. Painter at heart, he earned his keep as art-critic and teacher in Rotterdam. Stilleven met schedel is an example of Dutch 1930's realism, a style Begeer adapted after his abstract Branding period which ended in 1926.
