Lot Essay

Born in Nancy where he studied at the art school, Georges Folmer was interned in Germany in 1914 when he happened to be there at the outbreak of World War I. In 1919 he settled in Paris. His meetings with Auguste Herbin and Félix Delmarle brought him to abstraction in 1935. Folmer was co-founder of Espace and participated in the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles in Paris from 1947 until 1972.
