Lot Essay

The Danish West Indies (Dansk Vest Indien) are a former colony of Denmark in the Caribbean, now known as the Virgin Islands. In 1916 the islands were sold to the United States of America for $ 25.000.000,- in gold. The present lot shows a wedding party of an elderly wealthy bridegroom and his young beautiful bride; he happy with his prey, she with her new status.
