An oyster table with similar hinged flap in the centre of the top is at Newbridge House, Co. Dublin. It has recently been associated with '1 Oyster Table', recorded in the Sitting Room in 1821. Like the present table, a drawer is positioned beneath the flap which is likely to have been zinc-lined to take the shucked oyster shells. Slides at either end contol the position of the flap (J. Peill, 'Heirlooms of Newbridge House', Irish Arts Review, Summer 2003, p. 99-100, figs. 1-2). The drawers on this table, however, are fitted with locks, suggesting that the table's drawer may have been used to secure a valuable commodity.
