Lot Essay

An almost identical brass-bound bucket was supplied to Sir Edward Knatchbull for Mersham-le-Hatch, Kent by Thomas Chippendale in 1769. It was described as 'a large Mahogany Plate pail wt Brass hoops & handles £1.11.6' (C. Gilbert, The Life & Work of Thomas Chippendale, London, 1978, vol. I, p. 222, vol. II, fig. 318, p. 177).
