This Roman stool pattern derives from Thomas Hope's Household Furniture and Interior Decoration, London, 1807, pl. 12, fig. 4. The monopodia derive from a 'Drawing Room' chair pattern in Thomas Sheraton's Cabinet Maker, Upholsterer and General Artist's Encyclopedia, London, 1804.
A similar but taller pair of stools was sold from the collection of the late Sir Robert Abdy, Bt., in these Rooms, 2 February 1995, lot 321.
