Yvette Guilbert (1867-1944) commissioned this plaque from Lautrec as the top for a small tea table. Lautrec sent the design to the potter Emile Muller in Ivry for him to produce a ceramic tile. Lautrec hand-coloured each plaque himself before it was fired and no two examples are identical. When he submitted the design to Yvette Guilbert she added the humourous inscription which appears in the lower left corner.
