Lot Essay

Louis-André Valtat has confirmed the authenticity of this painting.

The present work was in all likelihood acquired direct from Valtat's dealer Vollard by the artist, poet, photographer and patron Eugène Boch. A friend to many fellow artists of his generation, Boch is perhaps best remembered today for his portrait by Van Gogh which hangs in the Musée d'Orsay.
