Tapering circular and with an ebonised wood handle, the hinged cover with a compressed circular finial, engraved with a CV cypher below a Royal coronet, marked near handle and inside cover
7 in. (17.8 cm.) long
gross weight 10 oz. (325 gr.)
The cypher is for Prince Christian Victor of Schleswig-Holstein (1867-1900), eldest son of Prince Christian of Schleswig-Holstein (1831-1917) and Princess Helena (1846-1923), 3rd daughter of Queen Victoria.

Lot Essay

Prince Christian Victor was the first member of the royal family to attend a public school, being educated at Wellington College. He fought in the Asante campaign and in the Boer War. While serving he caught enteric fever from which he died at Pretoria in 1900.
