No VAT will be charged on the hammer price, but VA… 顯示更多 The fans in this collection are believed to have been used by HH Princess Marie Louise (1872-1956) or her mother HRH Princess Christian (1846-1923), the third daughter of HM Queen Victoria. Fans were still carried at court up to, and even after, the second world war. The highlight of the collection is the fan made for the marriage of Princess Christian by Madame Rebours in 1866. In 1858 Prince Albert had commissioned a birthday fan for Queen Victoria from Madame Rebours. That fan is currently on display in 'Unfolding Pictures. Fans in the Royal Collection', catalogue no. 45, at The Queen's Gallery, The Palace of Holyrood House until May 29 2006. The exhibition will move to The Queen's Gallery, Buckingham Palace from 17 November 2006- 11 February 2007.

The silk leaf painted with the arms of Prince and Princess Christian of Schleswig-Holstein and sprays of narcissi and green pear-like berries, signed on verso 'Paris, M. Rebours,' the mother of pearl sticks carved with monogram spelling Helena, a princely coronet, the date 5th July 1866 and carved mother of pearl flowers, the guardsticks applied with carved mother of pearl flowers, 1866, in a silk covered box stamped in gold 'H' with an elector's crown
