Provenance: Robert Course (contemporary inscriptions, one dated 1614) -- Humphrey Fysshe (17th-century inscription) -- [by descent to Harvey family at] Ickwell-Bury, Beds. (library ink stamp on flyleaf).
FIRST EDITION of Markham's second practical manual on horsemanship, dealing with breeding, training (including of race-horses), veterinary medicine, and, in the eighth book, passions, tricks of cheating horse-coursers, and the remarkable performance of Mr. Bankes' horse Morocco, which he is supposed, famously, to have ridden up the steeple of St. Paul's. The folding woodcut called for by Poynter was issued separately. Huth p.15; Mellon/Podeschi 18; Poynter 19.1; STC 17334.
