3 parts in one volume, 4° (185 x 136mm). Partly printed in black letter. 62 woodcuts in part 1 printed from 39 blocks; 15 woodcuts in part 2, 5 repeated, all repeats from part 1, the cuts signed E.B. [?Edward Brewster]. (I3 of part 1 with several small holes causing slight loss, A3-4 of part 2 holed at margin, some browning, occasional waterstaining and soiling.) Contemporary speckled sheep, spine gilt with red morocco labels (covers restored and slightly bowed). Provenance: Hugh Cecil Lowther, 5th Earl of Lonsdale (1857-1944; his sale, 12 July 1937, lot 445).

FIRST PUBLICATION OF PART 3. The first part was originally printed by Edward Allde in about 1620, and the second in 1672 despite having been promised by Allde over 50 years earlier. Collected editions in two or three parts only appeared between 1672 and 1701. Caxton's translation from a Flemish version, The History of Reynart the Foxe, had appeared in 1481.
