2° (275 x 380mm). Letterpress title and 14pp. text, 6 hand-coloured aquatint plates. (Light off-setting and browning to text leaves.) Original printed wrappers (edges worn, spotted). Provenance: C. Sanctuary (inscribed and dated March 1871 on upper wrapper) -- Fitz Eugene Dixon (pasted sheets on inside of wrappers covering notes; his sale, Anderson Galleries, New York, 6 January 1937, lot 43, $520 (£104)).
THE DIXON COPY. A RARE EXAMPLE IN ORIGINAL WRAPPERS, with title on upper cover and advertisment for 6 works published by McLean on lower cover. Five copies listed in ABPC since 1977, 2 in wrappers. The work tells the amusing tale of the new wealthy Londoner on a trip to the countryside and the constant gaffs he makes due to his lack of understanding of the country way of life, and the danger he poses to himself and all those around him whilst in possession of a gun.
