Large 4°, (385 x 280mm). Large paper copy, 50 hand-coloured soft ground etchings each with letterpress descriptions. (Some very light off-setting.) Contemporary green half roan with grey paper boards, titled in gilt on spine (edges rubbed and worn). Provenance: William Sutherland (signature on front pastedown) -- C.F.G.R. Schwerdt (pencil note; his sale, 22 May 1939, lot 52).
SCHWERDT COPY OF THE VERY RARE LARGE PAPER QUARTO EDITION. The collation and list of plates of this edition are identical with those of the 4° edition listed in Schwerdt I p.19, with the exception that there is no frontispiece, the frontispiece, Fox Hunters Toast of the 8° edition being plate 19 in this edition. The colouring of of the plates is magnificent. Siltzer p.72; Tooley 43; Schwerdt IV, p.5 (this copy).
