Contemporary blue morocco in restoration style by W. Strong, richly tooled in gilt, red morocco inlays, wide gilt turn-ins, red watered silk doublures and endpapers, gilt and finely gauffered edges.
ONE OF 150 COPIES, the first 'modern' reprint of the earliest English sporting book, in a suitably ornate binding by Strong (Ramsden, p.136 and plate XXIV, illustrates another of Strong's 17th-century pastiche bindings). Schwerdt I, p.63: 'This work contains bibliographical notices and a list of known editions of the Book of St. Albans, which are fully described'.
