Poems on Several Occasions. Published by Subscription. Manchester: for the author by R. Whitworth, 1733. 8° (192 x 113mm). A few woodcut decorations and headpieces, list of subscribers. (Light spotting and browning.) Contemporary (probably original) grey wrappers (spine a little marked). Provenance: some errata corrected by a contemporary hand. A scarce volume of poetry including a 4pp. poem entitled 'In Praise of a Good Hunter'. One of the subscribers is a Mr. Samuel Johnson. Foxon P-689.

EXTRA-ILLUSTRATED with the title and 19 plates from Howitt's British Sports, all hand-coloured and folding, with the final advertisement leaf. Contemporary green straight-grained morocco, flat spine gilt in compartments, double line and pointillé borders round sides enclosing small tools, gilt edges attractively gauffered copying some of the tools on the binding (head and foot of spine and corners very slightly rubbed). Schwerdt II, p.284; and 8 others similar (of which 4 are Schwerdt copies) including: The Buck's Bottle Companion (London, 1775); George Thomas's The Otter Hunt (Newtown, c. 1830); and Charles Dibdin's The High-Mettled Racer (London, 1831).
