PANORAMA -- WOODWARD, George Moutard (1760-1809) and Isaac CRUIKSHANK (1764-1811). A Long String of Resolutions for a New Year. London: S.W. Fores, 1792. Hand-coloured engraved panorama on 4 sections, joined and folded as a concertina (overall: 30 x 206cm). The panorama comprises 16 handcoloured caricatures by Cruikshank after Woodward. (A few neat repaired tears, light browning.) Modern red cloth slipcase.
A RARE PANORAMA OF 16 CARICATURES featuring amongst others, a clergman 'Resolv'd to purchase a new set of sermons my old colection by frequent repitition being worn thread bear' and a writer in beggar's attire 'Resolv'd to endulge the world with no more works of genius till better paid for them'. Woodward arrived in London, from Derbyshire, in 1792 and collaborated with Cruikshank on many projects. He is often credited with creating the modern form of comic strip.
