PEEPSHOWS -- [Perspectivische darstellung einer hirsch jagd. Einer wild schwein jagd und einer fischerey]. Germany: [c.1810].
A collection of 3 German hunting peepshows, each 90 x 140 x 160mm, hand-coloured engraved scenes mounted on card with paper concertinas, showing hunting scenes of a deer hunt, a wild boar hunt and a riverine fishing view, each in original paper wrappers titled in German and Italian. (Small wormhole to the back card of the deer hunting peepshow.) Mounted in an early 20th century green morocco drop-flap peepshow viewing box with section to view the peeepshows and storage section alongside, spine base and lid ruled in gilt and spine titled in gilt; together with another unmounted hand-coloured peepshow for a bear hunt, 7 cutout cards [early 19th century].
A fine group of unusual hunting peepshows made for the German market but obviously sold around Europe, this example having contemporary Italian titles on the wrapper labels. (2)
