8° (234 x 152mm). 15 hand-coloured and finished aquatint plates by and after J.T. Rawlins, half-title, errata slip. (Very occasional light spotting, a few plates with marginal restoration, a few captions just shaved.) Publisher's green morocco gilt, title in gilt on spine, gilt edges (spine slightly browned, some extremities lightly rubbed).
FIRST EDITION of a work celebrated for its picturesque shooting scenes, which are described by Schwerdt as 'unusually attractive'. As noted in the preface to a later edition 'Gamonia is valuable not only for its rarity and charm, it is the first treatise devoted solely to the subject of pheasant rearing, covert shooting, and the management of woodlands for the special purpose of preserving game'.
