Lot Essay

The arms, with ribbon showing the motto of the Order of the Bath, are of Hughes, for either Admiral Sir Edward Hughes or Captain Sir Richard Hughes, second cousins and descendants of Sir Thomas Hughes, knighted 1619 and Recorder of the Bath.
