AN ENGLISH PEARLWARE PINK LUSTRE SMALL PUNCH BOWL
Circa 1825, probably Sunderland or Newcastle
Of 'London' form, transfer printed in black, the bottom of the basin with a poem starting with the phrase Life's like a Ship in constant motion, the sides with a second poem starting with the phrase Thou hold'st thy course in independent pride, and on the opposite side with a ship in a squall titled below 'In Distress', each within pink lustred cartouches, the white ground further decorated with similar bands, the exterior with vignettes of 'In Distress', of 'Life's like a Ship...' , and of a paddle steamer in a harbor before a bridge, each reserved on a pink lustred ground further decorated with finger marks and squiggles
