Varuna was commissioned by Eugene Higgins in 1897. Designed by G.L. Watson and built by A & J Inglis, she was the third of three similar Watson designed yachts in 1897, the others being Mayflower and Nahma designed for the Goelet brothers. Mr. Higgins spent most of his time in Europe, and unfortunately, Varuna had a short career as she was wrecked in the Azores in 1909.
