Lot Essay

William Brodie was accepted into the Scottish Royal Academy in 1847 and the Royal Academy in 1850. He produced a number of notable works depicting important figures including Queen Victoria (1868) and David Livingston (1879). Some of these proved to be so popular they were reproduced in Parian. The present bust would have been the last subjects he excuted before his death 1881.
