Comparable 18th century examples of this group are modelled by Reinicke and Kaendler, depicting Pluto and Proserpine or Boreas and Oreithyia. The wings of this elderly bearded man indicate that this is most probably Boreas, although the winged putto (probably Cupid), the flames and the skull on the base and the flowers in the hand of the maiden would suggest a depiction of Pluto and Proserpine.
