Another pair of chairs of this French-fashioned 'cabriolet' pattern, with 'Roman' medallion backs and antique-fluted frames, was sold by a Lady of Title, Christie's, London, 20 October 1972 (lot 154). With their legs capped in the Grecian manner by 'Apollo' or poetic sunflowered acrotia, they also relate to a fine suite of seat furniture, supplied in the 1780's for Langley Hall (now Park), Norfolk. The latter have Grecian-scrolled rather than columnar back legs (J. Fowler and J. Cornforth, English Decoration in the 18th Century, London, 1986, fig. 137).
