Lot Essay

The chairs' shell-decked rails and feet relate to those from sets of George III armchairs at Osterley Park, Middlesex, and Alnwick Castle, Northumberland. Their reed-framed backs relate to a Louis XV pattern chair design in the drawings album of the Berkeley Square firm of William and John Linnell (M. Tomlin, Catalogue of Adam Period Furniture, London, 1982, F/4).
