The chairs have laurels issuing from the arms' patteraed tablets and columnar legs festooned with drapery as featured on ribbon-crested chairs, formerly at Weatherall House, London, circa 1900 (see Philips, London, 11 February, 1997, lot 88). Four broader armchairs, of the latter pattern, were sold Sotheby's, London, 6 July 1962, lot 128.
