Lot Essay

This bureau with raised scrolling ebonised cartouches framing panels of richly grained walnut, is typical of Lombardy cabinet-work of the mid-18th Century. Other related full-scale bureaux and commodes with similar ebonised scrollwork are illustrated in S. Colombo, L'Arte del Legno e del Mobile in Italia, Milan, 1931, figs. 389-94.
