Lot Essay

The present bronze is modeled after a reduction of the monumental group found in front of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. The last in a series of four models depicting the Indians' relationship with the White Man, Appeal to the Great Spirit was exhibited at the National Sculpture Society in 1908 and at the Paris Salon of 1909 where it was awarded a gold medal.
