Made probably in Yorkshire or Lancashire, this cupboard illustrates the ability of cabinet makers working within a regional tradition whilst including design elements from classicism in order to embellish their work. The simulated flutes to the pilasters are inlaid with applewood; the Gothic arch is inlaid with black stained oak to simulate ebony as are the capitals, which are supported on inlays of applewood again; the door is banded in plumwood whilst the door panel has bandings of mahogany and walnut.
