EXCEPTIONAL CELLAR FULL OF GEMS FROM BORDEAUX AND BEYOND
A knowledgeable and kind collector pieced together this cellar over the past 15 years of tasting and careful studying. His impressive collection displays a wide range of tastes from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti to Tignanello. The pristine condition of the original wooden cases of Bordeaux reminded me of a château offering. This wine enthusiast's rule for collecting was simple: if he liked it, he bought it and was loyal to his favorites. In a market concentrated on scores, this gentleman realized the maxim that anybody can make decent wine in a good vintage, but the best winemakers select fruit and employ methods to consistently offer fine wines. Further to this attention to producers, great vintages are represented in today's selection for sale. The resulting vertical offerings of Latour, Dominus, Peter Michael, Solaia and Dujac all demonstrate fine producers' pursuit of perfection.
The beautifully designed cellar which housed these wines eventually became overfilled and this selection marks a first attempt at trimming. Over his years of tasting, this gentleman's palate calibrated towards Burgundy, so his stash of favorite wines remain in the cellar for future drinking. Bottles tasted from this cellar were particularly youthful, not surprisingly so, as the cellaring conditions are ideal: 55 degrees Fahrenheit and correct humidity.
