FLOWERS
A state of the art facility founded by Walt and Joan Flowers in 1989 on the rugged Sonoma Coast adeptly uses its mountain aperture to both naturally cool and utilize gentle gravity flow rather then punching down or pumping over. Flowers first made their reputation from Burgundian style wines from the Camp Meeting Ridge and now have access to their own estate vineyard which was planted with clones from La Tache and Calera for the Pinot and Wente, Gauer Ranch and Mt. Eden for the Chardonnay. This vineyard is at an even higher elevation on highly fractious rock very similar to Burgundy. The wines are finely delineated with an elegance not often associated with California.

Flowers Camp Meeting Ridge, Pinot Noir--Vintage 2000
Napa Valley
"The 2000 Pinot Noir Camp Meeting Ridge is a seductive, exotic, gamy, and opulent example. Its evolved dark garnet color is followed by sweet, flowery aromas revealing hints of prunes, jammy red and black currants, forest/soil notes, and an exotic gamy/earthiness frequently found in red Burgundies, but much more rare in California's more fruit-driven Pinots. There is a lot going on in this opulent, seductive 2000. Drink it over the next 6-7 years. This wine is an outstanding, complex, elegant, flavorful effort with multiple nuances. It is unfiltered." Robert Parker, Wine Advocate #142 (Aug 2002)
