Original red cloth-backed boards by William Edwin Rudge, paper label with peacock design on upper boards, spine lettered in gilt, t.e.g., original pale green slipcase with paper label on cover with peacock device (very light spotting on boards, spine slightly darkened and with small mark, slipcase slightly rubbed and marked).
FIRST SEPARATE EDITION, ONE OF 550 COPIES SIGNED BY WOOLF on the verso of the half-title; 500 copies of the edition were for sale, of which 250 were to be distributed in Britain by Douglas Cleverdon. The 2 plates and the design of the volume were by the celebrated American typographer, book-designer and illustrator William Addison Dwiggins (1880-1956); this copy is in the variant pale-green slipcase noted by Kirkpatrick.
