Franz Richard Unterberger, son of a Tyrolean artist, is remembered as one of the most notable painters of Venice and Naples of his day. By the 1880's he was already a celebrity participating in the most exclusive and illustrious exhibitions in Europe and beyond. Because of his use of such a bright and vivid yet airy palette there are echos of Impressionism in his work though Unterberger did not associate himself with the movement.
